AI Deployment Engineer
Location: San Francisco, CA (Onsite)
Position: Full-Time
Salary: $120,000 - $175,000 Base + Meaningful Equity
Company Overview
This company is a Series B startup, backed by $65 million from elite investors including Emergence Capital, Y Combinator, and the founders of PayPal and Twilio. With a nimble, 40-person team, it is a recognized leader in the voice AI space, building the world's most human-like AI phone agents for forward-thinking enterprises. The platform delivers transformative value to customers by redefining customer experience and operational efficiency.
The Role: AI Deployment Engineer
This company is seeking a uniquely skilled AI Deployment Engineer to own the entire customer journey, from initial technical sale through implementation, expansion, and advocacy. This role exists because every customer’s needs are complex and distinct. The mission is to dive into this ambiguity, translate ambitious goals into concrete technical plans, build the initial solutions, and drive widespread adoption within some of the world's most innovative companies.
This is not a standard solutions engineering role. It is a hybrid position for a builder who thrives on customer interaction and a customer champion who possesses serious technical chops.
Key Responsibilities
- Pre-Sales Technical Partnership: Partner directly with Account Executives on discovery calls, whiteboarding complex integrations, and articulating the platform's unique value proposition to product and engineering leaders. Own the technical win and scope the implementation plan.
- End-to-End Implementation: Personally design, build, and iterate AI conversation pathways. Integrate with customer APIs, and test relentlessly to ensure the deployed agent achieves the desired, human-like quality and drives business outcomes.
- Project Leadership & Coordination: Act as the central hub, coordinating engineers, product managers, and operations stakeholders on the customer side. Set clear timelines, manage expectations, and ensure flawless, on-time delivery.
- Rapid Iteration and Expansion: Deploy a robust first agent quickly, then analyze real call data to fix edge cases and improve performance. Proactively share results to build momentum and identify new use cases, then partner with sales to scope and close expansion opportunities.
- Customer Champion and Face of the Company: Embed within customer organizations, practicing "unreasonable hospitality." Travel on-site to build deep, human relationships with champions, host training sessions, and become a trusted advisor.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a relentless owner who combines the technical depth of a builder with the communication skills and hospitality of a world-class consultant.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- 3-7 years of experience in a role demonstrating ownership of complex, customer-facing technical builds from zero to production (e.g., Solutions Engineering, product-minded Software Engineering, startup founder).
- Technical fluency with REST/JSON APIs and the ability to write quick scripts in Python or JavaScript to connect systems and automate tasks.
- A proven track record of "running through walls" to overcome immense challenges and deliver exceptional results, demonstrated in professional or personal pursuits.
- An exceptional communicator, capable of translating complex AI and LLM concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences with clarity and confidence.
- A desire for the intensity of a fast-growing startup—ambitious, hard-working, and motivated by doing great work, not by corporate process.
- Willingness to be based in San Francisco, with an initial full-time month in the Jackson Square office and a continued commitment to a strong in-person and on-customer-site culture.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):
- Hands-on project experience with LLMs, either through side-projects or production features.
- A background as a founder, Solutions Architect, Product Manager, or CSM where you held ultimate accountability for delivering customer outcomes.
- Direct experience managing the full customer lifecycle from pre-sales to post-sales to expansion.
- Exceptional new graduates with demonstrable ownership and ambition are encouraged to apply.
You Will Thrive Here If You Are:
- Smart, Relentless, and Customer-Obsessed: You derive energy from working directly with customers to solve their hardest problems.
- Exceptionally Organized: You maintain tight control over timelines and communicate progress with thorough clarity.
- A Craftsperson: You care deeply about the end-user experience and are committed to creating AI agents that sound genuinely human, not like corporate robots.
- A Willing Traveler: You enjoy the opportunity to hop on a plane to visit customers and build relationships in person.
Compensation & Perks
The company offers a competitive base salary of $120,000 - $175,000, a meaningful equity stake, and comprehensive benefits. The role is based out of a gorgeous office in San Francisco's Jackson Square neighborhood.
Application
This company is building the future of customer communication. If you are a resourceful, fast learner with a proven ability to own outcomes and a passion for merging technology with human connection, we encourage you to apply—even if your experience doesn't check every single box.
