The Gist
Build the software that nuclear operators depend on every single day. Own features from database to UI. High-agency, high-impact role at a company that's turning regulatory workflows from months-long slogs into days-long processes. Top of market compensation, meaningful equity, and work that actually matters.
The Mission
This company is building the intelligence layer that makes nuclear power deployable at speed. Their platform already powers engineering and compliance work for utilities, advanced reactor companies, and the hyperscalers who need clean, reliable energy to fuel the AI era. The team pairs deep nuclear domain expertise—think former NRC, CIA, and NuScale leaders—with world-class product execution drawn from Tesla, SpaceX, Google, and Microsoft.
Now they need a Founding Fullstack Engineer to turn dense regulatory workflows into intuitive, production-grade software that nuclear professionals actually want to use.
The Role
This is not a contract gig. Not a feature factory ticket-puncher. This is an ownership role, reporting directly to the CEO.
The engineer in this position will architect and ship product features end-to-end. Think 60% frontend / 40% backend, with full autonomy to make technical decisions and full accountability for the outcomes. Most weeks will involve designing new user flows, implementing features, refactoring systems, and then immediately seeing customers interact with what was shipped.
What You'll Build
- User-Facing Features: Translate complex, messy regulatory requirements into clean, intuitive interfaces that nuclear engineers and compliance officers actually enjoy using.
- The Full Stack: Design APIs, optimize database queries, implement frontend interactions, and debug production issues. Whatever it takes to ship.
- Engineering Standards: As a founding engineer, you'll define how the team thinks about code quality, design systems, testing, and the entire product development lifecycle.
- Close Collaboration with Experts: Work directly with nuclear subject matter experts and AI engineers to understand requirements and ship solutions that solve real problems.
- A Balance of Speed and Craft: Know when to optimize for polish and when to ship fast. Make those tradeoffs consciously and communicate them clearly.
- A Playbook for Scale: As the team grows, you'll mentor other engineers. But first, you'll prove the playbook yourself by doing the work.
A Typical Week Might Look Like
Ship a new document collaboration feature. Refactor search results to improve load time by 40%. Pair with an AI engineer to integrate a new model's output. Design mockups for a compliance workflow redesign. Debug a production issue reported by a customer. Review two pull requests. Rinse and repeat.
What You've Done
- 3–8 years of fullstack experience building production web applications. You've shipped features that users depend on daily, and you've owned parts of the product top to bottom.
- Strong frontend fundamentals: expert-level TypeScript and React, a deep understanding of modern frontend patterns, and genuine care about UI/UX details.
- Solid backend knowledge: comfortable with APIs, databases, authentication, and backend architecture. You can debug performance issues and design systems that scale.
- Product sense: you think about business outcomes, not just code. You ask "why are we building this?" and "how will users actually use this?"
- Ownership DNA: you've led projects, made technical decisions, and been accountable for results—not just for completing tickets.
- Bonus points: experience building technical SaaS products, working in regulated industries, or strong design instincts (you can mock up flows in Figma).
No nuclear background is required. Just the drive to build products that matter.
Who You're Building For
The customers are the critical operators keeping 20% of U.S. electricity safe and reliable. They are:
- Overworked and under-resourced, carrying the weight of the grid on their backs
- Navigating byzantine, decades-old regulatory processes that slow everything down
- Desperate for modern tools—they deserve software as good as what consumer tech gets
The products you build will help them:
- Onboard and train faster, reducing time-to-productivity from months to weeks
- Execute safety-critical workflows with confidence, speed, and complete audit trails
- Keep vital infrastructure safe, because "good enough" isn't good enough in nuclear
This is meaningful work in the truest sense. You're giving frontline professionals the tools they need to secure the energy backbone of society.
What's at Stake
- If the company succeeds: Operators get world-class tools, nuclear scales to meet exploding energy demand, and the AI era is powered by clean, reliable energy. The products you build directly accelerate this future.
- If the company fails: Nuclear remains stuck in red tape, operators stay overworked and under-supported, and humanity misses a once-in-a-generation chance to solve climate change with clean energy.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Shipped at least three major features to production that customers actively use.
- Product quality standards you set—around testing, code review, design patterns—become team norms.
- Customer-reported bugs decrease by at least 50% because of improvements you made to monitoring, testing, or reliability.
- You own a critical system—search, document viewer, compliance workflow, or core infrastructure—that other engineers depend on.
- At least one product decision you made (architecture, UX flow, or technical tradeoff) becomes the way the company does things moving forward.
Growth Path
Founding fullstack engineers at this company typically grow into Head of Engineering, Product Lead, or CTO-track roles as the company scales. First, you prove you can own product features and set the bar for execution.
