Job Type: Full-time
About the Company
Most of the e-commerce world is optimized for a single, simple transaction: buying something for oneself. But the moment a customer attempts to purchase for someone else—a friend, a client, a team—the experience fractures.
Forgetting a friend’s address means texting them and ruining a surprise. Coordinating client gifts for a sales team requires a hundred individual checkouts or filling out a clunky “Contact Us” form with the hope a human responds. It is a friction-filled paradox: the moment a customer is most motivated to spend money, the technology fails them.
This company is building the operating system for social commerce, transforming the chaotic process of sending gifts—whether it’s one or one thousand—into an experience as seamless as buying for oneself. We are a profitable, ~10-person team experiencing 3X+ year-over-year growth, powering gifting for over 100 premium brands, including renowned names in the food and lifestyle sectors.
We are seeking a Lead Designer to join at a pivotal inflection point. This role is about defining the aesthetic and interaction standard for online gifting, turning a fragmented industry into an intuitive and delightful journey, and building the design infrastructure the company will scale on for years to come.
The Role
As the Lead Designer, you will be the architect of the user experience, owning the visual and functional narrative of the product. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role reporting directly to the founding team, where you will translate ambiguity into elegant, shippable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Ownership: Drive the entire design lifecycle, from initial user research and whiteboard ideation to high-fidelity UI and developer handoff.
- Strategic Partnership: Collaborate directly with the Co-Founders to influence product strategy, roadmap, and feature definition.
- User Advocacy: Build direct relationships with brand partners and end consumers to uncover deep insights, validate hypotheses, and ensure the product solves real-world friction.
- Execution & Delivery: Work shoulder-to-shoulder with engineering leadership to ensure designs are implemented with fidelity and shipped to users efficiently.
- Foundation Building: Establish and evolve the design system, processes, and patterns. You will lay the groundwork to scale the design function and team as the company grows.
Who You Are
- You possess 4+ years of product design experience, ideally within a fast-paced startup or SaaS environment.
- You have a proven track record of taking products from "zero to one," navigating the ambiguity of the 0-to-1 phase with confidence.
- Your portfolio demonstrates a rare duality: meticulous visual craft combined with rigorous, user-centered problem-solving.
- You are fast without being sloppy; you are opinionated about design but not precious about your work.
- You prioritize shipping and learning over endless debate in the abstract.
- Bonus: You have direct experience designing for e-commerce platforms, checkout flows, or B2B commerce tools.
The Offer
- Impact: The chance to define the design culture and output of a hyper-growth startup from the ground up. You won't be handed specs; you will decide what gets built and how it feels.
- Compensation: A competitive salary plus significant early-stage equity.
- Benefits: Comprehensive health, vision, and dental insurance, unlimited PTO, and the perk of experiencing the product firsthand with excellent gifts.
- Location: A remote-first culture with access to a New York City office for those who prefer a hybrid environment.
