The Opportunity: Fixing a Broken Financial Experience in Healthcare

The U.S. healthcare system places a staggering financial burden on patients, serving as the nation's leading cause of personal bankruptcy. Annually, tens of millions of Americans face severe financial hardship—from damaged credit to wage garnishment—simply as a result of seeking medical care. This problem is intensifying with the rapid adoption of high-deductible health plans.

Our mission is to transform this reality. We leverage data intelligence, elegant product design, and deep personalization to make healthcare more affordable and navigable for everyone. While the industry has historically treated patients with a generic, one-size-fits-all approach, we are applying consumer-grade best practices to deliver a transparent, empathetic, and empowering financial experience.

The Role:

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our foundational Communications & Login squad. This team is tasked with solving one of our most critical challenges: engaging patients in a meaningful, personal, and scalable manner. Your work will define the initial touchpoints of the patient journey, encompassing secure login authentication and the digital communications—email, SMS—that guide individuals through understanding and managing their healthcare financial obligations.

This is a deceptively complex domain. The content, timing, personalization, and accessibility of our communications directly determine whether a patient feels confused or clear, anxious or in control. Excellence here not only drives positive financial outcomes for health systems but also provides genuine support during a inherently stressful experience.

You will be a key contributor in a full-stack capacity, shipping impactful product, building robust foundational systems, and elevating the capabilities of a growing team. This role demands a professional who thrives on bringing clarity to ambiguity, designing for scale, and owning outcomes.

Why This Role is Impactful

This squad operates at the top of the funnel for our entire platform experience. Your technical contributions will have a direct and measurable influence on patient engagement rates, financial resolution, and the overall success of our partner health systems and providers. You will be architecting the systems that allow us to communicate with millions of patients with precision and care.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Own the end-to-end delivery of major features and platform enhancements, from technical design through to deployment and iteration.
  2. Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Data Science partners to architect and build scalable, patient-centric communication systems.
  3. Contribute significantly to architectural decisions and the technical roadmap for the squad.
  4. Design, rebuild, and scale core communications infrastructure to improve clarity, performance, and cross-functional ownership.
  5. Develop sophisticated personalization frameworks that move beyond simple token replacement to deliver context-aware, behavior-driven messaging.
  6. Streamline patient authentication and login flows to reduce friction at critical moments of interaction.
  7. Build tooling and platforms that empower other product teams to own and experiment with their communication touchpoints.
  8. Lay the technical groundwork for future AI-driven messaging and intelligent patient outreach systems.

Professional Growth & Leadership

  1. Provide hands-on technical mentorship and constructive feedback to engineers across all levels.
  2. Drive clarity by decomposing ambiguous, complex problems into actionable technical plans.
  3. Champion engineering best practices in system design, testing, observability, and collaborative code review.
  4. Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership for the squad’s technical deliverables and collective success.

Who We're Looking For

  1. 6+ years of professional software development experience, with substantial full-stack exposure.
  2. A proven track record of designing, shipping, and maintaining complex systems at scale.
  3. An exceptional collaborator and communicator, effective with both technical peers and cross-functional stakeholders.
  4. Experience in mentoring other engineers and contributing to a culture of technical growth.
  5. Pragmatic in approach, comfortable making informed trade-offs, and adept at evolving architecture alongside product needs.
  6. Genuinely motivated by the opportunity to improve healthcare through human-centered technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience building personalized, segmented, or transactional messaging systems (email, SMS, push).
  2. Background with communications platforms, templating engines, or marketing technology stacks.
  3. Familiarity with AI, LLMs, or machine learning applications in personalization or content generation.
  4. Proficiency with our core stack: Python, Django, and React.

Compensation & Benefits

  1. Salary Range: $195,000- $247,000. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience, expertise, and location, and may vary from the range listed.
  2. This role includes equity eligibility.
  3. Comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision) that commence on the first of the month following your start date, inclusive of fertility and adoption assistance.
  4. 401(k) Plan with a 100% company match on contributions up to 3% of your annual compensation.
  5. Unlimited PTO with a minimum encouraged vacation policy of 20 days per year, plus dedicated sick and mental health days.
  6. Inclusive Parental Leave: 16 weeks of fully paid leave for all parents, with health benefits maintained and flexible re-entry schedules.
  7. Commitment to Growth: Access to mentorship programs, management coaching, and a discretionary budget for professional and personal development.
  8. Hybrid Work Model: For most roles, the flexibility to work from home or our office, based on your preferences and team needs.
  9. A Culture of Belonging: We actively foster an inclusive environment where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work. This is supported by employee-led resource groups focused on BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and women+ communities.

This is a chance to build transformative technology at a high-growth company directly addressing one of the most pressing issues in American healthcare. Our platform is scaling rapidly, currently engaging with tens of millions of patients annually and processing billions in patient payments. You will be joining a team founded by leaders passionate about solving this problem after their own negative healthcare billing experiences, backed by premier institutional investors. If you are driven by purpose, technical challenge, and tangible impact, we encourage you to apply.
