The role

This engineer owns the automated test frameworks, quality assurance tooling, and integration pipelines behind the core systems. The work spans building and scaling internal test platforms, designing automated verification suites, and validating hardware-to-cloud data flows so that both edge platforms and back-office systems run reliably.

It is a senior startup seat for someone who can move quickly from initial system requirements to production-ready test automation, make pragmatic architecture calls, and deliver validation tooling that lets engineering teams ship with confidence.

Responsibilities

1. Design, build, and deploy automated test frameworks and internal validation tools used across software, hardware, and operations teams
2. Develop end-to-end integration tests, regression suites, and ETL data quality checks that validate system telemetry and third-party API integrations
3. Build backend integration services and test automation scripts in Python, TypeScript, or Java to simulate real-world operational conditions
4. Stand up monitoring, automated alerting, and CI/CD testing pipelines that hold software quality steady across deployments
5. Investigate complex software, firmware, and data integration failures, running root-cause analysis across distributed systems
6. Work directly with cross-functional engineering teams to define test plans, qualification procedures, and system performance benchmarks

What the company is looking for

1. 6+ years of professional software test engineering or test automation experience
2. Strong programming skills in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, or Java for building automated suites, tooling, and integration frameworks
3. Solid experience testing RESTful APIs, integration services, and complex data flows across microservices architectures
4. Strong SQL and database query skills for validating data correctness, schema evolution, and backend pipeline execution
5. Hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and containerized deployment environments (Docker, AWS, Kubernetes)
6. Comfort owning test infrastructure end to end — fixture setup, environment configuration, and operational hardening included
7. Clear written and verbal communication, with a bias toward direct collaboration and fast execution

Bonus points

1. Experience with test framework orchestration tools such as pytest, Cypress, or Playwright
2. Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop testing, bus communication protocols, or edge-to-cloud data verification
3. Experience testing event-driven systems or queue-based integration patterns
4. Exposure to defense, maritime, or other regulated environments with strict verification and validation standards
