We are the global leader in genomic diagnostics, translating complex genetic data into actionable insights that transform patient care. Our team combines cutting-edge bioinformatics with clinical expertise to deliver accurate, scalable solutions for healthcare providers worldwide. As we expand our platform’s capabilities, we’re seeking a senior engineer to optimize our bioinformatics pipelines and drive innovation in precision medicine.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer/Bioinformatician, you’ll lead technical initiatives to enhance the speed, accuracy, and scalability of our production diagnostics platform. You’ll architect robust bioinformatics solutions, mentor teammates, and ensure compliance with clinical standards (CAP/CLIA) while advancing our mission to improve patient outcomes through genomics.

What You’ll Do

  1. Design & Optimize: Improve variant calling algorithms, pipeline efficiency, and infrastructure (AWS/Kubernetes) for NGS/non-NGS assays.
  2. Lead Validations: Spearhead analytical validation efforts for pipeline upgrades and new products.
  3. Elevate Standards: Establish software engineering best practices in a regulated (CAP/CLIA) environment.
  4. Solve Complex Problems: Troubleshoot wet/dry-lab issues and optimize Bayesian/ML-based bioinformatics applications.
  5. Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with bioinformaticians, DevOps, and lab teams to align technical solutions with clinical needs.

What We Value

  1. Technical Depth: Expertise in pipeline scalability, variant calling (especially structural variants), and modern software practices.
  2. Ownership: Ability to lead high-stakes projects where decisions impact diagnostic accuracy and timelines.
  3. Resourcefulness: Creative problem-solving in resource-constrained environments.
  4. Compliance Mindset: Familiarity with CAP/CLIA inspections and assay validation.

Tech Stack & Requirements

  1. Core: Python, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, CI/CD, automated testing
  2. Bioinformatics: Samtools, GATK, Picard, VCFtools, BEDtools
  3. Stats/ML: Bayesian methods, machine learning applications in genomics
  4. Experience: 5+ years in production software (regulated industry preferred); PhD strongly preferred

Key Responsibilities

  1. Deliver cost-efficient, reliable pipelines meeting clinical-grade standards.
  2. Write high-quality, documented code peer-reviewed by teammates.
  3. Mentor colleagues to elevate team-wide technical expertise.
  4. Ensure modular, evolvable bioinformatics software for future innovation.

Why Join Us?

  1. Impact: Your work directly improves diagnostic accuracy for patients globally.
  2. Growth: Lead initiatives at the forefront of genomic medicine.
  3. Culture: Collaborative, mission-driven team with low ego and high psychological safety.
  4. Benefits: Competitive salary, equity, 401(k), top-tier healthcare, flexible PTO.

Ideal Candidate

You’re a PhD-level engineer/bioinformatician with deep expertise in NGS pipelines, variant calling, and regulated environments. You thrive when trusted to solve hard problems and inspire teams through technical leadership.
