Our hiring partner, a leading direct-to-consumer lifestyle brand experiencing rapid growth, is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join their Technology team. This organization has built a cloud-based microservices platform from the ground up to power their online customer experience and drive the logistics and processing of their garment distribution centers.

This role is ideal for an Engineer with the initiative and expertise to help mature this platform into a stable, scalable, and robust backbone for launching the next wave of product innovations. The individual will need a conversational grasp of streaming and message processing fundamentals, solid confidence with JVM-based tools, and a reasonable aptitude for designing and integrating Kubernetes services with cloud-based platform APIs.

Beyond individual contribution, this Engineer will bring experience that extends to leading design and requirements grooming, driving communication between teams, and providing critical feedback and mentorship opportunities. The ideal candidate is adept at picking up new technologies and patterns, comfortable discussing and debating the pros and cons of various approaches, and ready to tackle new challenges with a supportive team of creative and hard-working professionals.

Role Responsibilities

1. Strategic Engagement: Actively participate in discussions and decision-making processes for new features and platform evolution, contributing technical perspectives that shape the product roadmap.
2. Product Collaboration: Partner with the product team to design thoughtful solutions for stakeholder features, translating business requirements into technical implementations.
3. Full Lifecycle Delivery: Own the complete lifecycle of deployable features—from coding and configuration to documentation and ongoing support—ensuring quality and reliability at every stage.
4. Architectural Contribution: Contribute to roadmaps and process development to deliver features and evolve the overall architecture, helping to define the technical direction of the platform.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the QA and Platform Engineering teams to test code and keep integrated testing environments unblocked, ensuring smooth delivery pipelines.
6. Mentorship & Feedback: Provide critical feedback through code reviews and design discussions, fostering a culture of technical excellence and offering mentorship opportunities to less experienced team members.

Role Qualifications

Experience

1. 4 or more years of experience with server-side development projects, with demonstrable experience making compelling contributions to engineering teams.

Technical Expertise – Languages & Frameworks

1. Operational knowledge of one or more server-side object-oriented programming languages, with a strong preference for JVM languages including Java, Kotlin, or Scala.
2. Solid confidence with JVM-based frameworks such as Spring and Micronaut for building robust, production-grade services.

Streaming & Distributed Systems

1. Able to converse at a basic level about streaming data, distributed system design, and the relative merits of different messaging technologies and patterns.
2. Experience with streaming or asynchronous data processing in production environments.
3. Hands-on experience with at least one mainstream distributed system (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Storm, Cassandra, or similar technologies).

Cloud & Containerization

1. Experience with major cloud providers, such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or Azure.
2. Knowledge of container technologies and experience designing and integrating Kubernetes services with cloud-based platform APIs.

Web Services & APIs

1. Experience with web services standards and related technologies, including HTTP, JSON, and RESTful API design.

Engineering Practices

1. Experience and enthusiasm for testing and test-driven development, with a commitment to building reliable, well-tested systems.
2. Able to hit the ground running and quickly familiarize yourself with an existing codebase and toolset.

Soft Skills

1. Able to propose and walk through solutions in informal technical leadership discussions, articulating technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
2. A collaborative mindset with strong communication skills, comfortable working across functional teams.
