Company Overview:

We are revolutionizing the backbone of business finance by transforming how companies manage employee compensation. Our technology provides the core infrastructure that allows our partners to design, operate, and scale their own powerful payment platforms. As the pioneers of a deeply integrated payment system, we empower a new generation of financial services to launch, grow, and succeed from our headquarters in the heart of New York's technology scene.

Our Team

The existing framework for business payments is fundamentally flawed. We are a group of relentless builders determined to architect a better solution. In this environment, your innovative problem-solving, critical analysis, and perseverance will directly shape the capabilities of every partner we serve. We approach every challenge as a chance for collective contribution, valuing unique strengths and collaborative spirit over predefined responsibilities.

If you are driven to solve deeply complex problems and build a more intuitive financial future for businesses worldwide, we invite you to join our mission in NYC.

The Role

This senior role demands a blend of deep technical expertise and strategic vision to drive organizational impact. Our platform is engineered with cloud-native tools managed as code, centered on a Python-based modular monolith. This sophisticated architecture captures the benefits of distributed systems while maintaining the developmental clarity of a mono-repo. We rely on durable asynchronous execution frameworks and traditional HTTP APIs to orchestrate critical background workflows—from managing financial transactions to ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Tackle the organization's most challenging technical problems, providing hands-on leadership and expertise that elevates the work of multiple engineering teams.
  2. Develop rapid prototypes to validate innovative concepts and de-risk future development pathways.
  3. Foster a culture of excellence by offering insightful perspectives and direct, constructive feedback on technical and procedural matters.
  4. Mentor and elevate colleagues through genuine mentorship, transparent work practices, and a willingness to embrace vulnerability.
  5. Define and simplify our technical trajectory by influencing and shaping overall system architecture.
  6. Demonstrate and model rigorous critical thinking through high-quality code, detailed written proposals, and clear architectural diagrams that guide team direction.
  7. Design and deliver scalable systems and services within our mono-repo, assuming full ownership from architectural design through to successful deployment.

Our Technical Environment:

  1. Backend Services: Python, Django
  2. Frontend Applications: React, TypeScript
  3. Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform
  4. Data Management: Postgres
  5. Workflow Orchestration: Temporal
  6. Development Platform: GitLab for CI/CD and issue tracking

Qualifications:

  1. A proven record of staff-level technical ownership and influence that spans multiple teams or an entire organization.
  2. Extensive experience architecting and evolving complex, scalable systems, preferably within a regulated environment.
  3. Demonstrated resilience and skill in navigating highly ambiguous challenges and creating structure to enable effective collaboration.
  4. High proficiency in diagnosing and resolving issues in complex systems, including managing critical operational incidents.
  5. Experience in defining and driving technical strategy that aligns the work of cross-functional teams.
  6. Strong proficiency in Python or Go; practical experience with Django, React, or TypeScript is highly advantageous.

Work Location & Collaboration

This role is based in our New York City office. We believe that time together in person is where we do our best work, and we operate on a hybrid model. Our NYC office is open all week, providing a dedicated space for collaboration and focus. We provide catered meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the team hosts regular happy hours, game nights, and other events. We also offer ample opportunities for connection with our distributed team members, including team offsites and hackathons. All employees are expected to attend our annual 3-day company retreat.

Compensation & Benefits

For this NYC-based role, the expected annual base salary range is $225,000 - $247,500. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications, with most new hires placed near the midpoint of this range to ensure fairness.

Full-time employees are eligible for comprehensive benefits starting on their first day, including company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance. The total rewards package includes stock options, flexible paid time off and sick leave, 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all new parents, a flexible return-to-work policy, 9 annual holidays, a 401(k) plan, and a $100 monthly stipend for home internet and mobile phone costs.
